What's your favourite TV show / film?


One of my past times is watching movies and reading, both are clearly related. The best movies are those  that interpret books, many of them the creation of great authors. One of my principal rules is to watch the film after Reading the book, this  is because I find it truly thrilling to imagine the characters, their physical aspects and their surroundings.

Their psicologial trates are easier to get to know and in movies these details are very difficult to show as the autor would have them portrayed. For example there are small details but not less important that are not shown in movies, one of these and the first that comes to mind is the color of Harry Potter’s eyes, one of the firts books I read and one of the first films I watched. the boy in the movie has blue eyes and his mother’s are brown. In the book, however, this detail stomts out when the shape and color of his eyes are mentioned relating them to one of the physical aspects he has inherited from his mother and they are really Green! Not blue and definately not brown. I guess this can be forgiven. What cannot be forgiven when relevant information is left out to make it easier to understand the story or they change the way the main carácter is. In this case i could mention “orange clockwork” contrary to what i usually do I saw the film first and I loved it, due to the crazyness of the trama and the main character’s  way of being. Although once I read the book I was a little disapointed by the movie, the story has certain twists that were not shawn or at least not in the best manner. The main carácter is psicologically more affected and intelligent, thus making him more dangerous and cruel. Many scenes are omitted and the book has a different ending.

With respect to this I will tell you about a film I found totally genuine and brilliant and wich marks you as a person. The name of the film is “Slepeers”, i usually like films that for me are quite old, I find that older films tell the story closer to reality. This film was made in 1996, I saw it when I was 14 years old, and I became obsessed with it. I did a lot of research looking for information on internet. I suffered watching this movie, due to the cruedness of it’s trama. It doesn’t omit details and one of my favorite actors “Robert De Niro” stars in it. The film is base don a true story and is portrayed as such. There is no need to read the book to understand how the character’s feel at all times, it doesn’t have a happy ending as one may expect. The character’s take revenge wich could be interpreted as being just but that doesn’t change their future or make it any better, as they have been marked by the awful situations lived during their childhood. Well I wont continue telling it just incase you decide to see it, I hate spoilers…

A subject you enjoyed studying this term

A subject which has currently affected, in great magnitude, the faculty is suicide among the students. This is due to the actual suicide of a workmate and two others that were on the verge of doing the same thing. As often happens in these cases there is hardly any prevention but a lot of talking amongst us once the tragedy has occured. Personally I think not enough importance is given to these cases in Chile, the worst has to happen before anyone takes any action. I remember needing psicological help, mainly because I needed some type of contention and as always there were no hours available in the public health enteties and when I tried to find help within the faculty the waiting list was enormous. I could have had suicidle ideas without any support to avoid them. I dont know if this is the same in other countries but here in Chile its obvious that help is difficult to find. I wish that the depression, words and actions of our workmates were taken more seriously. I

Why I decided to study architecture! This is a   complicated question for me to answer, do I like this career? During my life prior to university I asked myself on many ocasions what i wanted to do with my future or what i wanted to be, there was a time I wanted to be a doctor then i   didnt want to do anything, to tell the truth i had a dificult time deciding on what I wanted to study. I have always liked to read so this played a big role in my decisión, I gave teaching a lot of thought, becoming a lawyer was also an interesting option. One week before the applications I realized I have always liked drawing and history of different countries and I had to choose a career which would allow me to include both of these. Finally I decide on architecture and here I am four years after. After such a long time you would think this was the right choice for me but im still not a hundred percent convinced this is the direction i want to go or if i love what im doing but i have to admit

A career-related website / an expert on your field

In architecture inspiration is totally necessary. The best projects have been created on the way to work, whilst you watch tv or by seeing objects on the street. There are moments in which you see a centre piece on a coffee table and you hear   a click in yourhead you have been waiting for, it sounds crazy but thats the way it is with art. When you least expect it you see something with the form of your future project, even the smell of something can generate a good idea. Although nowadays things have changed, the need for imagination is no longer that important because inspiration and good ideas can be found on internet.  In my personal experience, during my first year of university, one doesnt know the short cuts you can take so as to reduce your work load and physical stress. The most dificult part of architecture is thinking of what to do, I remember having spent whole nights awake with this dilema.
